HPE Nimble Storage Cloud Volumes
Cloud usage grows everyday with almost everyone looking to leverage it in some way. The major players are Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that all supply similar services, but in different ways. This can lead to lock-in since each vendor provides the same services, but in very different and incompatible ways. If an application is developed and deployed on AWS it is not a simple task to migrate it to Azure or GCP. Another issue is that many consumers do not want all their applications and infrastructure outside of their direct control for many reasons and require a hybrid solution.
HPE provides a wonderful hybrid option for their Nimble storage array with Cloud Volumes. Cloud Volumes is an HPE provided service that is available on all three of the major clouds, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
What are the benefits of HPE Cloud Volumes?
There are many benefits available for Nimble Storage users that use Cloud Volumes such as those below.
Robust Reliability
Simplify Backup
Security and Compliance
Cloud Replication and Failover
No Lock-in
Move Apps with Containers
What does this mean for my business?
Cloud Volumes allow you to use the cloud you want, as you want, with the ability to be flexible. It also allows your storage team to manage the cloud storage as they do with on-prem Nimble arrays and most importantly, have everything that Infosight offers.
Another great use of Cloud Volumes is for Disaster Recovery or test/dev in the cloud. These replicated volumes can easily be mounted to compute nodes running in your cloud service of choice and can originally be volumes connected to physical servers or VMware virtual machines as long as you use vVols. To see how easy this is you can view the YouTube video below from HPE.
What to do next?
Cloud Volumes are a fantastic addition to the Nimble array that enables flexible cloud storage for DR and other secondary uses. If you already have a Nimble array and are interested in doing more in the cloud this may be a perfect fit. If you are looking to acquire a new array, this could be a unique differentiator to take advantage of.
